Battles

A number of Battles today:

  • Battle - Blur
  • Battle March Medley - The Pogues
  • Battle of Brisbane - The Pogues
  • Battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin
  • Battle of Jericho - Hugh Laurie
  • Battle of the Beanfield - The Levellers
  • Battle Of The Somme - The Albion Band (from Larkrise)
  • Battle Of The Somme - The Albion Country Band
  • Battle Of the Somme - Fairport Convention
  • Battle Without Honour or Humanity - from the Kill Bill Soundtrack

Of all the Somme versions, this one from the Larkrise album is my favourite: Graeme Taylor on lead guitar.
It feels suitably angry.

And, lest we forget, another shameful incident from more recent history.

Banks

A string of folk songs starting with Banks:

Banks Of Green Willow - Spiers and Boden
Banks Of The Bann - Shirley Collins and the Albion Country Band
Banks of The Nile - Fotheringay. Spine-tingling vocal from Sandy Denny, Trevor Lucas and Jerry Donahue on guitars, Pat Donaldson on bass, Gerry Conway on drums. This is about as good as it gets.  On my iPod twice, so 18 minutes to wallow in.
Banks of The Roses - The Dubliners
Banks of Sweet Primroses - Fairport Convention live.

Here is Fotheringay's Banks Of The Nile

Banging tunez

Today has been the turn of songs beginning with "band" and "bang".

Band of a Thousand Chances - The Battlefield Band. Dire.
Band of Gold - Freda Payne. Did the Northern Soulies like that one? Probably.
Band On The Run - Wings. Still sounds great.
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - June Tabor. The Pogues changed the tune a bit and I actually prefer their version.

Bang - Blur
Bang A Gong - Blondie.
Bang And Blame - REM

Bang Bang - B A Robertson. Dreadful
Bang Bang - Nancy Sinatra. Much better.
Bang The Drum Slowly - Emmylou Harris. Gorgeous, like almost everything she does.
Bangin' Man - Slade. Not their finest.
